capital punishment is only used in homicides so rape would not fit, it is seen as cruel and unusual punishment which is a violation of our 8th amendment right, but i agree with justin no one has the right to take a life.

I'm for it
Some people have moral issues with it, since it's sort of like playing God and determining who lives or dies, but it's not anything new. Crimes have been punishable by death since society has been regulated.
Not to say I don't disagree that there are some cases where I think it was misused, but overall I don't think we should abolish it

I believe it should be abolished, it does way more harm than good. While it may kill off those seriously deranged people, the system is flawed. Theres not enough legislation to ever correctly or effectively regulate it. At the current state minorities tend to have the sharp end of this sword, because they are executed more. Moreover the system is bias of course.

Its quite hypocritical to arrest someone for murder, then murder them after.
Thats like arresting someone for selling drugs, then turn around and sell drugs yourself.

Just because my daugher was raped @ Jane doesnt mean that i have the right to take the rapist's life. I Am not god i have no control over anyone else's life. I wouldnt want anyone to take my life.

im torn between my thoughts on the death penalty because true enough no one but the person who created you God should have the right to terminate someone's life, but at the same time if someone harmed someone i was close to or my family i would want them to suffer.

You're right, but nothing is perfect so there will always be flaws in any type of system, and anything that's regulated by other people will be subject to bias (intentional or not) and error.
However without the death penalty we'd run into a few problems, namely the cost of holding prisoners (Anyone getting the death penalty would probably have gotten life imprisonment as a minimum sentence). It simply costs too much to hold prisoners
Not to mention the idea of capital punishment (or any punishment) can deter crime. For example, have you ever hesitated before doing something against the law because you're afraid of the repercussions?
Basically, from a moral standpoint I can understand why some disagree with the death penalty. However, aside from that I think it's pretty much essential

Well cain you opened up an entirely new door, prison overcrowding..why are most people incarcerated? and what population is disproportionally represented in prisons or jails? But encompassed in that, you are right every system is flawed, but when it has to do with someones LIFE you dont mess around with that, not to even mention the number of people exonerated, say after DNA evidence proved they didnt do it, what about those innocent people on death row? they dont deserve justice or protection? This is too much power for any human to have. Prison overcrowding can easily be abetted, stop locking up niggas for petty ass crimes. And while it may not be that simple, with the correct reform we can reduce prison incarceration rates.

that's true @ Cain. It may be good for population control. but everyone being imprisoned aint gonna be there for life. they have a area for death row its not that long, Being that its only used in cases where captial punishment can be used. its not essential if everyone isnt getting it in the first place. Moraly it doesnt make sense to me Judiciously it doesnt either to me.

The crimes of rape, torture, treason, kidnapping, murder, larceny, and perjury are all crimes punishable by the death penalty. Given that those sentenced to life without parole have an indefinite period of time to appeal, unlike a death row inmate, in the long run the financial cost of housing a a criminal will be wayyy more expensive than housing a death row inmate , and us as Americans could be spending out tax dollars on something way more important , like our public school system . && although you do have some good points about hipocracy , lets not forget JUSTICE for the victim. Victims of murder cannot avenge themselves, its up to society , the government and our justice system to not allow people who take lives , to continue their own .
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a toothâ (Exodus 21:23-25) , its also in the bible , just thought i would put that out there
